Suffolk Libraries, the charity that runs Suffolk’s library service has received a Suffolk Healthy Workplace Award from Suffolk County Council.
The award recognises good practice among local employers in promoting the health and wellbeing of their people.
Organised by Suffolk’s Public Health and Communities team and other local health partners, the award offers Suffolk businesses of all sizes the opportunity to become accredited across eight standards: health & safety, mental health, physical activity and healthy eating, inclusive employment, leadership, attendance management, smoking & tobacco related ill-health and alcohol and substance misuse.
Suffolk Libraries was successful in all the key standards it applied for; receiving a silver level award in mental health and bronze accreditation in leadership, healthy eating and physical activity, alcohol and substance misuse and absence management.
Jane Cox, Suffolk Libraries Community Mental Health & Wellbeing Manager, said:
“We are delighted to have received this recognition of the commitment we make to our staff. It’s their hard work and dedication which helps Suffolk Libraries make such an impact across our communities so it’s vital that we do all we can to provide a healthy workplace which supports their health and wellbeing. We intend to continue to work our way through the standards with the aim of achieving gold across all eight.”
Cllr Andrew Reid, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for Public Health and Public Protection said:
“I am delighted to be presenting the Healthy Workplace Award to Suffolk Libraries. They have demonstrated commitment to improving the health of their workforce at all levels, supporting people to work well across the organisation. This award is an opportunity for Suffolk employers to celebrate the excellent work they are doing in this area, and I would encourage others to be inspired by Suffolk Libraries’ example to seek accreditation and the benefits it brings.”
