Brandon Library has recently unveiled a newly refurbished children’s area and library entrance. The new children’s area is light and spacious with a reading nook and plenty of room for its regular activities for children, such as Tot Rock, Storytime and Lego Club.

The refurbishment was funded by planner development funding and with the Friends of Brandon Library also kindly contributing £250 towards the improvements.

The work has included new carpets, bookshelves, display areas, seating and furniture, as well as a fresh coat of paint to tie it all together.

Mat Sheldrick, manager at Brandon Library, said:

“We are so pleased to have the major work undertaken at Brandon completed in eight days and it has given the children’s library and entrance area such a lift. The story wall and reading nook is capturing the hearts of families and its lovely to see the wide eyes of children as they excitedly discover the nook complete with sensory lights. Our stock librarians and property team have worked closely with contractors and my team to deliver a vibrant, amazing space decked out with lovely new books and furniture.

“The feedback from our community has been so positive. Pictures have been going viral on our social media pages and we can’t wait to show the new look off for Suffolk Libraries Day!”

Brandon Library is hosting several fundraising events for Suffolk Libraries Day on Saturday 11 March, including a fundraising scavenger hunt, a big library sale and a Where’s Oona competition for children.

Suffolk Libraries Day is our annual fundraising event celebrating the important work our libraries do for communities across Suffolk.

Earlier this month, Carl Conway, who regularly volunteers at the library to help run Lego Club and the Summer Reading Challenge, received a Best of Brandon award for the Young Volunteer category. Suffolk Libraries is very grateful for Carl’s volunteering efforts in supporting the library and would like to congratulate him for winning this award.
