Suffolk Libraries has announced two nights of fantastic live music at Stowmarket Library and Ipswich County Library in March.
The gigs are part of the programme of events for Suffolk Libraries Day which is the annual fundraising day celebrating the important work of libraries in communities across Suffolk.
The first event will involve a performance by A No Good Woman & the Kingsnakes at Stowmarket Library on Friday 15 March at 7.30PM.
A No Good Woman & the Kingsnakes are a five-piece blues band from Southend-on-sea, playing soulful blues, old and new, from the Delta to Chicago, Bessie Smith to BB King and Nina Simone to Peter Green. They’re sassy and swinging, hot and heavenly - featuring great musicianship and soulful powerhouse vocals. You can check them out on YouTube.
Kicking off the evening in foot-stomping style will be Motel Vandals, an upbeat Americana-infused rockabilly trio from Suffolk. Tickets to enjoy both these great bands are £12 each with group tickets also available to book online.
The Fabulous Cash & Carter Show will be bringing the music of Johnny Cash to Ipswich County Library on Saturday 23 March at 7.30PM.
The Fabulous Cash & Carter Show are a unique family group, starring Jax Deacon as Johnny Cash with Clare Wilding as June Carter and their amazingly talented band. With over 20 years of experience between them in the music business and a large fan base they bring you all the hits including Folsom Prison Blues, A Boy Named Sue, Daddy Sang Bass, Ring of Fire plus many more.
The evening promises a fantastic, authentic and heartwarming, nostalgic journey reliving the stories, music and songs of The Great Johnny Cash and June Carter.
Tickets are £11 for individuals with group tickets also available to book online.
Daniel Harvey, Director of Outreach, Fundraising and Volunteering at Suffolk Libraries has helped organised the gigs. He said:
“We’re really looking forward to hosting some fantastic live music in our libraries again! The Fabulous Cash and Carter Show – who were previously called Jax & Co – are a very popular Johnny Cash and June Carter tribute act, who always go down a storm, so we hope that Ipswich Library will be bouncing on 23rd March! Stowmarket used to hold a really popular blues festival until a few years ago, so we hope we can go some way to plugging the blues gap with A No Good Woman & the Kingsnakes at Stowmarket Library!
"The two bands we have lined up are brilliant and the profit we make will help support the work that Suffolk Libraries does in communities throughout the county.”
Suffolk Libraries Day takes place on 23 March 2024 and is a great opportunity for libraries across the county to get involved in a variety of fundraising events and activities.
This year Suffolk Libraries Day also features a big online book festival featuring interviews with massively successful authors including Lee Child, creator of Jack Reacher, Anthony Horowitz, Tracy Borman and Cara Hunter. The book festival takes place from 23-25 February.
