Suffolk Libraries is launching a new drink-awareness campaign to help people understand their alcohol intake.
The ‘Know Another’ campaign will offer advice and resources on the effects of alcohol and how you can cut down if you are drinking too much too regularly.
Know Another is being funded by Suffolk County Council and delivered in partnership with Turning Point and DrinkCoach. The idea of Know Another is saying ‘no’ to ‘another’ drink because you ‘know’ the impact on your health.
Know Another is being launched at a special mocktail event on Wednesday 27 March at Ipswich County Library from 1PM to 4PM. Anyone coming along will get a free mocktail no-alcohol drink and information and brief advice about drinking. Suffolk Libraries will also be sharing some specially created greetings cards which flip the idea that many cards are based on jokes about drinking to excess. The Know Another cards make the punchline a fact about alcohol consumption whilst still remaining light-hearted.
As well as the launch event, the campaign will offer free regular drop-in sessions hosted by trained members of staff, who can offer information and brief advice about alcohol drinking levels and signpost to specialist organisations if required. Free mocktail events will be held each quarter for attendees to socialise with others, share their experiences and try new non-alcoholic drinks.
Jane Cox, Suffolk Libraries Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Manager, said:
“We are delighted to be launching another new project which can help people with their health and wellbeing. Libraries are welcoming and non-judgemental places well known for being reliable sources of information and support so we hope Know Another will provide an opportunity for people to find out a bit more about how their alcohol intake may be affecting them and what they can do about it. If the events sound of interest please do come along and find out more!”
Cllr Craig Rivett, Suffolk County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Protection said:
"I am pleased that we are funding this exciting campaign aimed at helping people make healthier choices with alcohol and to support people to understand more about how drinking habits can affect their health. We've teamed up with Suffolk Libraries to make sure everyone can access the information they need in a friendly, non-judgemental environment."
