Reading With Dementia FAQs

Are there toilets on site?

Each site has toilets that are available to all customers to use, so toilets may be located upstairs but there is always lift access in those circumstances. Please feel free to ask any member of staff for directions to the closest toilet.

Are there stairs at the libraries?

All the libraries that are running the groups do have an upstairs, but where possible the groups will be run downstairs. Where this is not possible, there is a lift to access the upstairs.

What is parking like, and is it free?

None of the libraries have their own car parks, but parking is available close by.

Lowestoft: the car park is directly opposite the library charges are as follows:

  • 30mins – Free
  • 2hrs - £1.50
  • 4hrs - £3.00
  • Parking is paid for once you park.

Newmarket: parking is located at The Guineas Shopping Centre car park, just at the entrance to the shopping centre where the library is located. The charges are as follows:

  • Up to 3hrs - £2.00
  • All day which is only located on levels 4 & 5 - £3.00

  • 2hrs - £3.00
  • 3hrs - £4.50
  • Parking is paid for on your return to the car park

Are the libraries accessible?

All the libraries are wheelchair accessible, with ramps and lifts where needed.

Are the spaces quiet?

The days and times of the groups have been chosen for this reason, to ensure the library is being used when it's quiet. If you have any problems with hearing etc, please tell a member of staff or a volunteer who will ensure measures are put in place to make the groups accessible.

Can I get a drink whilst attending the group?

Hot drinks are provided for everyone attending the group - always feel free to bring a biscuit though.

I can’t attend each weekly session, is that okay?

That is fine, there is absolutely no obligation to attend each week. The groups are there for when you need them.

My loved one/the person I'm caring for can sometimes get distressed, can we leave early if we need to?

Of course, we would never want to put someone in a position where they feel uncomfortable, so there is no need to say anything -please feel free to get up and leave whenever you'd like to.

If you have any specific questions about the groups that we have not covered here then please contact Kayleigh Kent, Community Champion Coordinator:
