Around 150 people attended a special celebration event at Woodbridge Library this week to formally open the new children’s library.

The new area is one of the busiest areas of the library where children of all ages and their parents gather to look for books and take part in regular activities including weekly Stay & Play, Rhyme and Storytime, Baby Bounce and Tot Rock sessions.

The new and improved children’s library includes a new carpet, a shelving unit with a reading nook for children to explore, together with new cupboards, picture book boxes, sofas and a picture book tunnel.

The project was made possible through £20,000 of funding raised by the efforts of The Friends of Woodbridge Library and the Woodbridge Library staff team and thanks to the generosity of customers and local donors.

Helen Scrivener, Executive Library Manager for Woodbridge Library said:

“We love our new vibrant and colourful children’s area and have already received some wonderful feedback from families who have enjoyed the space so far. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to making this happen and making our library an even more popular destination.”

A special event took place in the new children’s library on Thursday 22 February with a puppet and magic show followed by balloon modelling all provided by Tommy’s Entertainments. Many delighted children and their families enjoyed the event which was a perfect way to introduce local families to the new library space.

Local supporters of Suffolk Libraries also brought along four of the PAWS-itivity dog sculptures which were auctioned last year and have found homes in Woodbridge. The dogs were brought in by their new owners, Suffolk Building Society, Woodbridge Books, and Woodbridge School.
