With thousands of young children visiting libraries in Suffolk this summer to enjoy the countywide Reading Quest activity, Suffolk Libraries is recommending a new app to parents to help children with their learning
Suffolk Libraries has partnered with the creators of ‘Wizzie’ - a new, free reading companion developed in Suffolk which can improve vocabulary, pronunciation, spelling and comprehension through reading.
Through the Wizzie app you can take a picture of a word and find instant definitions, synonyms, antonyms and translations. It’s ideal for students preparing for SAT, 11+ Exams, GCSEs, Advanced Levels, IELTS, and TOEFL.
Wizzie can be especially transformative for anyone with a learning issue including dyslexia and ADHD, as well as someone for whom English is a second language. It empowers every reader to excel, enhancing both confidence and academic achievement.
Shemal Rajapakse is the co-founder of Wizzie. He said:
“We created Wizzie to assist our son with his English exam preparation and it quickly evolved into a vital tool for English language learners, students preparing for exams, ESL learners, and those with reading and learning differences. Our commitment is to make reading accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone, and we hope working closely with Suffolk Libraries will help us achieve that goal.”
Krystal Vittles, Deputy CEO of Suffolk Libraries, said:
"At Suffolk Libraries, we understand that learning the meanings of words is a crucial step on the literacy journey. With the Wizzie app, children and young people can take their reading and learning to the next level and start to build their vocabulary and understand what they've read on a deeper level.”
You can download wizzie for free from the Apple and Play stores and find out more at www.mywizzie.com/faq/
The Suffolk Libraries website is also packed with information about activities for children in Suffolk and has lists of resources for parents to help support children with their literacy and wellbeing.
