It’s not too late to donate to our Be Kind to a Kid toy appeal being run by Suffolk Libraries and BBC Radio Suffolk.
Over 1,000 have already been received and the appeal has recently been boosted by a generous pledge from Suffolk-based nursing agency Advantage Angels who are donating toys to the value of £10,000!
The appeal aims to help make Christmas extra special for some Suffolk families by passing on donations of new toys to children who need them.
The appeal first ran last year and an amazing 2,500 new toys were donated at the county’s libraries and passed to over 20 local charities and organisations who work with families and children going through difficult times.
People are being encouraged to donate brand new toys to any of Suffolk’s 45 library branches before the deadline of 9 December.
Mekala Hodgson, Managing Director of Advantage Angels, said:
“From the moment Wayne Bavin at Radio Suffolk asked for to help it was an instant yes. No child should be without presents on Christmas Day. We are aware Christmas can be tough with families still struggling and with our small gesture we hope can at least ease part of that struggle for some.
“For us Christmas is a time of giving. Last year we donated £5,000 and this year we wanted to do more so we’ve doubled last year’s donation to £10,000. This act of kindness will ensure more children and families will benefit this year. With the help of Suffolk Libraries these presents will be distributed to many deserving charities and organisations in the community and put smiles on the faces of hundreds of children. The generous donation of £10,000 we hope will get the ball rolling and inspire anyone or any business to donate a present. One present, one smile. We are proud to be a Suffolk-based Private Nursing Agency and we appeal to any Suffolk-based companies to help in any way they can.”
Suffolk Libraries needs toys to be donated by 9 December to give our team of volunteers time to sort and pass on the toys in time for Christmas. Any toy is welcome and will make a difference to a child in Suffolk this Christmas. There are a few guidelines to help anyone kind enough to donate toys, to ensure people get what they need:
Charlotte Spackman, Executive Producer at BBC Radio Suffolk said:
“We are delighted to be working with Suffolk Libraries again for the Christmas Toy Appeal 2024. It was such a heartwarming community success last year. Times are still tough and this appeal will make such a difference and put smiles on faces of both children and their parents/carers again this year.”
