Suffolk Libraries has announced the winners of this summer’s Blank Page creative competition for local 10-18 year olds.

The competition ran alongside this summer’s successful Blank Page programme offering young people free creative workshops across the county’s libraries. The programme has been running since Easter 2023 and over the summer has engaged with 1,241 young people across 92 workshops.

Those enjoying Blank Page were also given the opportunity to enter a competition where they could express their own unique voices and ideas cultivated in the workshops by getting creative at home.

With such an incredible variety of talent and creativity, it was a real challenge to narrow down the winners and the judges at Suffolk Libraries deliberated for many hours over the entries.

We are extremely proud to announce our Summer Competition Winners:

1st Place: Freya Dowling, 13 (Recipient of a 1-1 tutorial with award-winning poet Chris James)

2nd Place: Gene Green, 10 (Recipient of a one-off original artwork from one of our Blank Page artists)

Joint 3rd Place: Betsy Taylor, 14 and Tilly Flynn, 13. (Recipients of £30 vouchers to The Works)

The judges also highly commended Shero Hassan, 12, Florence Moore, 12 and Francesca Birch, 14. (Recipients of £15 vouchers to The Works)

All competition entrants will be contacted separately via email by 27 September. If you have not heard from us by then, please contact Ella Henke, Marketing and Outreach Assistant on ella.henke@suffolklibraries.co.uk

Katie Puls, Youth Activities Producer and part of the judging team for the contest said:

“I’m truly humbled and blessed to be able to look over work from such a talented bunch of teenagers. We were blown away by the response to our summer competition and each and every entry has such creative talent and a unique voice. If this is the creative future of Suffolk, then it’s certainly very bright indeed!”
