Suffolk Libraries, the charity that runs the county’s library service, is providing a series of translated menopause resources to enhance health literacy in our communities.
As part of the Menopause & Me project, which is run in collaboration with Suffolk Mind, Suffolk Libraries has worked with local translators to provide a range of menopause resources in different languages.
Our Plain Language Summary, Glossary of Menopausal Terms, and Accessible Workbook have been translated into Romanian, Polish, Portuguese and Bengali, which are the main languages spoken in Suffolk after English.
These newly translated documents remove language barriers which may prevent people from accessing high-quality reliable information about the menopause. These resources have been professionally translated and are available to download for free from the Suffolk Libraries website.
Bethany Fisher is the Project Lead for Menopause & Me. She said:
“At Suffolk Libraries, we know the value and importance of ensuring the support, resources and advice we offer is accessible to all. Thanks to our friends at Ipswich Romanian Community and Ipswich Community Media, we are pleased to share a selection of our Menopause & Me resources translated into four different languages.
“We hope that this work will break down language barriers to our non-English speaking communities and improve access to this much needed support.”
The Romanian translations were kindly provided by Ipswich Romanian Community, while the Polish, Portuguese and Bengali translations were provided by Ipswich Community Media, a Suffolk-based charity which offers English language classes to migrants and asylum seekers.
Romeo Mustata, CEO of Ipswich Romanian Community, said:
“At Ipswich Romanian Community, we deeply appreciate our friends at Suffolk Libraries for their unwavering support and for the invaluable role they play in our community. Their rich and diverse library continues to inspire and empower us all. We are also grateful for the meaningful inclusion of Ipswich Community Media in this initiative. Together, we strive to break language barriers and ensure that vital resources, like the Menopause & Me materials, reach and support our non-English speaking communities.”
Anjali Sule is the Integration Team Manager for Ipswich Community Media. Anjali added:
“Ipswich Community Media always values the work our volunteers and Community Champions are doing for us and their communities. Thank you so much to Suffolk Libraries for giving them this opportunity to get involved in such an important work which will help so many people in future.”
These resources will remain available on the Suffolk Libraries website for everyone, even after the project ends in April. Visit our Menopause Resources page to view our full range of free resources.
