Seven of Suffolk’ Libraries are now offering free Warm Welcome Boxes thanks to nearly £11,000 of funding from East Suffolk Council.
The boxes are available from libraries in Aldeburgh, Kesgrave, Kessingland, Leiston, Southwold, Wickham Market, and Woodbridge.
The boxes are being offered as part of Suffolk Libraries winter Warm Welcome campaign and are aimed at anyone who might be struggling financially this winter and needs a little extra help.
The Warm Welcome Boxes are full of helpful items including LED light bulbs, a blanket, hot water bottle, vacuum flask, hot chocolate and cup-a-soups.
424 of the boxes will be made available thanks to grants totalling £10,796 by East Suffolk Council with the Kessingland, Wickham Market, and Woodbridge boxes funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Jane Cox, Suffolk Libraries Community Mental Health & Wellbeing Manager, said:
“We’re delighted to get this funding which will allow us to provide some extra help to families who live near these libraries. The boxes are designed to include some items people might find useful during the colder weather so we hope they’ll provide just a little extra help this winter. Through our warm welcome campaign we’re doing what we can to help people at this time of year when the rising cost of living and the cold can make life even harder.”
Cllr Sarah Whitelock, East Suffolk Council’s cabinet member for Communities, Culture, Leisure and Tourism added:
“I'm delighted to see the return of our Warm Welcomes scheme this winter, which provides people of all ages with a safe space to meet others, take part in activities, get on with work or just relax and enjoy a hot drink.”
All libraries in Suffolk are offering a warm and welcoming space to everyone. Our libraries offer free WiFi and computer access, free period products, free events and activities for all ages, and free books, including our extensive eLibrary services. During these cold months, you can also visit the library to enjoy a free hot drink, pick up some warm clothes, charge your devices and collect free essential items.
