OverDrive, the company who run the Libby e-book and audiobook service for Suffolk Libraries users, has announced upcoming changes to the app’s compatibility.
From 31 January, the OverDrive app will no longer be available on Amazon Fire tablets.
Due to a majority of Fire tablet users already using Libby – the new version of OverDrive with the same great books and an easy-to-use interface – OverDrive will no longer support the legacy OverDrive app on 31 January 2025.
Users with Fire tablets running Android 9 or higher can install the Libby app instead. OverDrive have been encouraging users to switch to Libby through in-app messaging.
The Libby app remains unaffected by this change.

The Libby app has the same great selection of e-books and e-audiobooks, and is free to everyone with a Suffolk Libraries card. If you are interested in using this service, you can sign up for a library card online or by visiting any of our 45 libraries. The Libby app is compatible with Amazon Fire Tablets and many other devices.
