Leave a legacy in your will

Leaving a gift in your will is one of the most personal ways to support Suffolk Libraries. It can also be a tax-efficient way of giving, and costs nothing during your lifetime. Help ensure the work we do across Suffolk continues long into the future.

You can help make lives better for future generations

By leaving a gift in your will, you can help Suffolk Libraries improve literacy for everyone in Suffolk.

We give children the best start in life through early exposure to books, storytime and engaging rhyme activities, in order to lay the foundations of good literacy and help them get a head start in their learning.

Suffolk Libraries offers a wide range of activities for children and young people across the county to help them improve their literacy and learn with confidence. These include pre-school activities, parenting resources, help with getting ready for school, and much more.

Leave a legacy to us in your will and you’ll help ensure that every child across the county has access to free learning resources, making Suffolk one of the best places to grow up for future generations.

Our literacy foundations

Suffolk Libraries offers a variety of programmes and initiatives which support the building of foundational literacy skills. These include:

  • Wordplay – Baby Bounce, Tot Rock and Storytime activities
  • Free books for each stage of their development, including Touch & Feel books
  • Specialist booklists for parents and educators
  • Dyslexia-friendly books for children and adults

With your help, we can expand these initiatives and explore new, creative ways to help children get a head start with their development.

How to include Suffolk Libraries in your will

There are three main bequests that you can make to Suffolk Libraries. This ensures that your will is legal, and that all your wishes can be acted upon. We strongly recommend that you consult a solicitor when making or updating your will, to ensure that it is legally valid and reflects your intentions.

This is leaving a specific percentage of whatever your estate is worth after any debts, costs, liabilities, legacies and tax have been paid.

  • A residuary legacy - this is leaving a specific percentage of whatever your estate is worth after any debts, costs, liabilities, legacies and tax has been paid.
  • A pecuniary legacy - this is a specific, fixed sum of money decided by you. The value of a pecuniary gift is likely to decrease over time due to inflation as the cost of living increases.
  • A specific gift - this is a specific, named item of something valuable including property, stocks or shares, a work of art, books or antiques.

Making changes to your current will

If you already have a will, and wish to add a gift for the benefit of Suffolk Libraries, you can do this by updating or making changes to your will by adding a codicil.

If you choose to recognise Suffolk Libraries in your will, we would be most grateful if you could inform us of your decision. You are not obliged to make us aware of your intentions, but doing so will allow us able to thank you for your generosity.
