Join bookbinding extraordinaire Hazel Garrity for this creative workshop for 10-16 year olds at Lowestoft Library. Learn how to create your very own nature journal using traditional bookbinding tools and techniques. This workshop is part of The Blank Page Project.
Workshops take place from 9.45AM to 3.30PM and include lunch, drinks and snacks!
Keeping a nature journal is a great way to slow down, look around and connect with the world outside. Through simple step-by-step demonstrations in a relaxed atmosphere, you will learn some of the key processes for bookmaking. Then you will be able to make free choices about layout, design and content for your own hand bound notebook. You will take home a carefully crafted and personalised journal which you can continue to fill with observations, ideas and images in the months to come. There may be opportunities for some fresh air and inspiration outside the library, too.
Workshops must be booked in advance. You can book online via eequ.
If your booking is made within 72 hours of the workshop, we may not be able to accommodate specific dietary requirements. Please get in touch with the library location for the workshop to discuss options. Please note that whilst we welcome all young people, our staff are not specifically SEND trained.
This workshop is for 10-16 year olds only. If you feel your child requires additional support in the form of adult attendance in order to access this workshop, contact us by emailing katie.puls@suffolklibraries.co.uk.
Free places are available for those eligible for benefit related free school meals. Unsure if you’re eligible? For guidance visit www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals.
Hazel's chief enthusiasms have always been words, books and making things. As a secondary school English teacher, she has worked with young people to give them the confidence to be creative with language. Now she wants to explore the possibilities offered by combining words with the traditional craft of constructing books in different forms and expressing ideas in different ways.
