Suffolk Libraries has launched exciting new plans for working more closely with schools to help improve literacy levels across the county.
The new Suffolk Libraries Schools Programme was launched at Woodbridge Library on Monday 2 October. Around 40 people including representatives from schools in Suffolk came along to hear Suffolk Libraries CEO Bruce Leeke and Children’s Librarian Erin Hamilton outlining how Suffolk Libraries aims to provide more support and resources for schools.
Those who came to the launch event received special packs outlining the new programme. These packs will also be sent to other schools across the county and include more information on the new programme including:
Sarah Brown, Assistant Headteacher at Poplars Community Primary school in Lowestoft, was also presented with a huge stack of books after winning her their height in books as part of a special prize draw to promote the new programme.

Erin Hamilton, Suffolk Libraries Children’s Librarian, said:
“We’re very excited about our new vision for supporting schools. We already work closely with schools, children and families but we want to re-engage and remind schools across Suffolk about the many ways we can help them to support children’s literacy and development. Research has proven that engaging with libraries can make a big difference to children’s literacy skills and educational achievement so we want to do even more to improve literacy levels and provide more opportunities for children across Suffolk.”
Suffolk Libraries will also be running a free conference for schools on 21 March 2024.
