Join Suffolk Libraries on the beach in Lowestoft!

Suffolk Libraries is again running a pop-up beach hut library in Lowestoft this week offering activities and information for all the family.

Suffolk Libraries will be based in a beach hut on Lowestoft South Beach offering activities from 10AM to 4PM on Wednesday 14, Thursday 15 and Friday 16 August.

The activities are running thanks to East Suffolk Council who are allowing Suffolk Libraries to use the beach huts free of charge with sponsorship from ‘Suffolk Supported Families’ and support from the local DWP team. Suffolk Libraries arts, Wellbeing and literacy teams are working together to provide a range of interactive activities. These include storytimes and reading activities, Moving Minds wellbeing and fitness activities and a chance to sample a mocktail and find out more about Suffolk Libraries' Know Another alcohol awareness project.

The programme for the three days includes:

Wednesday:

  • 11AM – Baby Bounce on the beach
  • 1PM – Storytime
  • 10AM to 4PM - Book browsing and mocktail tiki bar

Thursday:

  • 11AM – Tai Chi Moving Minds session
  • 10AM to 4PM - Book browsing and mocktail tiki bar

Friday:

  • 11AM – Baby Bounce on the beach
  • 1PM – Storytime
  • 10AM to 4PM – Book browsing

On Friday there will also be spoken word poetry with Amy Wragg from 10AM to 3PM. Amy is a poet, artist, zine maker, and promoter working under the name of getonthesoapbox.  You can also pop along to the beach hut and collect a unique 'Make Your Own Zine' template to create your own DIY (fan)zine- for free. Zines are non-profit, independent and intensely personal (maga)zines that celebrate individuals & community.

There will also be Reading Quest activities as part of Suffolk Libraries current summer reading campaign which is sponsored by Advantage Angels. There is also a chance to pick up one of 150 special tickets to claim a ‘Wow Box’ full of free fun children’s crafts from Lowestoft Library.

There is no need to book everyone is welcome to show up on the day and take part. Please wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear if you want to enjoy the activities and a bottle of water and a towel is also recommended. The beach hut will also provide a chill out space with a gazebo, beanbags and relaxing music for families to come and take a break, breastfeed, nap, eat and read.
