Suffolk Libraries are thrilled to announce the launch of a new fitness initiative, Move It!
Move It will allow people to borrow fitness equipment for free from seven of the county’s libraries, making it easier than ever to stay active and healthy in Suffolk.
Move It lets you borrow exercise equipment from your local library at no cost. Just like borrowing a book, you can reserve these items through the online catalogue and pick them up at your nearest library. Whether you're a seasoned fitness enthusiast or just starting your fitness journey, we have something for everyone!
Move It is part of Suffolk Libraries new Arts Council-funded Moving Minds physical wellbeing programme which include the established Jumpstart activities in libraries and online and the new Fit For Work project for local businesses.
We have a variety of equipment available to cater to all fitness levels. The items can be borrowed from Lowestoft Library, Woodbridge Library, Gainsborough Community Library, Ipswich County Library, Stowmarket Library, Haverhill Library or Newmarket Library.
Each item comes with an instruction manual, and we have helpful how-to videos available via our website.
The equipment you can borrow includes: 4kg and 6kg kettlebells, a dumbbell set, resistance bands, mini pedals, wobble cushion, weighted hula hoop, rounders set and football and cones. Other items such as swing ball, skipping ropes and yoga mats are also available from a previous initiative.
You must be 16 years or older to borrow equipment. You will need a library account if you don’t have one already and you’ll need to sign a simple loan agreement form. The loan period is six weeks, giving you plenty of time to get the most out of each item. It’s quick and easy to sign up for library card if you don’t have one already and it opens up access to books, computer hire and our extensive eLibrary services.
Nardyne Gilardoni, project Lead for Suffolk Libraries Moving Minds project, said:
“Helping people with their wellbeing is a huge part of what Suffolk Libraries offers to local communities. We’re now able to help you with your physical health too! Together with our Jumpstart programme, ‘Move It’ is all about giving people access to more opportunities to keep healthy. Not everyone wants to take the first step to a healthier life – particularly when it can cost money and can be a big commitment when you’re not sure what’s right for you. We hope offering this free loanable sports equipment, with clear guidance on how to use it, will help more people in the community stay fit, healthy, and achieve their fitness goals. Whether you're looking to try something new or enhance your current workout routine, Move It has something for you!”
